Another Year

We can fill up that paycheck with moroseness

I’m to kiss

But…

Another year,

hangs

Out on the porch

Out on the luck.

No neck, no shivering

Just torchlight and snow

Maybe the river will shine red for us

Maybe we can swim

I’m not the future

Here’s the stamp

Take your mail to the office

And live vicariously

Feel the misery

Well-set periods

Well-positioned furniture items

Megan’s gone from the list

We knew her in high school

Now she’s gone

I don’t know you too well

Malaise in the scintillation

Sense of suffocating

Stiff upper lip

Sniff, sniff

So much, so much to know (about)
