Black Birds of Ohio

One step removed: I say, “Something cliche, like ‘They sing.'”

One step removed.

Eh?

What about the boot to the bottom?

How’s that sound?

They motor their way down the causeways

Chunnel and churn

And all that is left is a bell with an inscription

Of some nonsense lover they murdered on plain straightaway roses

In autumn.
